I began writing novels in 2004. I detoured a bit into haiku, blogging, and non-fiction, but have been back in the noveling saddle for over a year now. Still, in all that time — and all the years before as well — I have never taken a “writing class”, workshop, seminar, or conference. I read a couple of books on writing, but I quickly came to the conclusion that it would be a better use of my time to actually write, rather than reading about writing, or listening to people talk about writing.
I have no idea why, but in the last few years I’ve started doing all kinds of things I’d never done before. No idea why. But I’ve seldom regretted any of it. So when the opportunity presented itself in the form of the Rosemont Writers Retreat, I figured, what the hey.
So beginning this evening and running through until Friday I will be immersing myself in the world of writing. Intensive daily workshops, lunch and evening programs, maybe even a little bit of actual writing (the WIP is going awesomely). Should be fun.
I’ll let you know how it goes.
